The town is vibrantly creative: you will see evidence of artistry wherever you turn, from the fabulous silver jewellery in the shops, to the intricate carved doorways of homes and temples, to the mossy stone statues and delightful stone mosaics that decorate the town’s laneways.
Painting is the most common art form, and you’ll find little art galleries all over town, while silver-smithing, stone masonry, woodcarving, basket-weaving, batik and other ancient crafts traditions still flourish in Ubud and its neighbouring villages. In the last decade or two these more traditional pursuits have been joined by potters, sculptors, jewellers, furniture-makers and artisans working with glass, metals, cane, bone, volcanic stone and more.
